The Central Vermont CV-4007 Caboose was the start of the rail
collection at The Depot Rail Museum. It was purchased in June
of 2000 by Barry Fromm, owner of The InfoDepot Business Center.
Built in Vermont in 1909, the authentic wood rail caboose was last
used on the Cadillac/Lake City Railroad and faithfully followed
the tracks through New England and Eastern Canada. For more
than a century the caboose, or last car on the train, served as
an office, bedroom, and kitchen for the train crew. With a
cupola for an observation deck, brakemen watched the train for shifting
loads, overheating wheels, and other problems.
In addition to the 1909 Central Vermont Caboose, tours of other
rail treasures will be available such as the 1886 “Car 100” Georgia
& Florida private executive railcar; a 1920s Vulcan Steam Locomotive;
and a 1951 Great Northern “Empire Builder Series” #1244 White Pines
Lake Ranch dining car.
